Best free AI job application tools in 2026

Twelve tools that claim to be free, checked against their own pricing pages: which ones actually give you tailored resumes, cover letters and application autofill without paying.

Ask for a free tool that tailors your resume, writes the cover letter and fills in job applications, and you get a long list of names. Most of them are free for one of those three things and paid for the others. I went through the twelve that come up most often and checked each one against its own homepage, pricing page and llms.txt file, so this list is about what the free plan actually includes.

Disclosure: I build SealApply, which is on this list. I’ve stuck to what each company publishes about itself and said where another tool is the better pick. Everything here was checked on 30 October 2026. Plans change, so check the pricing page before you rely on any of it.

What counts as free here

“Free” on a job tool usually means one of three things:

  • Free forever, no paid tier. Every feature is in the one version. This is rare.
  • Freemium. A free plan with caps (five tailored resumes a month, twenty AI drafts a day) or with the AI features moved to a paid plan.
  • Free trial. Paid, with a few days or a few uses free. I’ve left pure trials out.

I scored each tool on the three things in the question: a resume tailored to each job, a cover letter for each job, and autofill on the employer’s form.

Only two rows are free across all three columns with no cap: SealApply and Jobply. Everything below them is a good tool for something, but free for only part of the job.

The two that are free for all three

SealApply: free forever, and your resume stays in your browser

You paste a job description. SealApply rewrites and reorders the experience already on your resume to match it, shows every change as a diff you accept or reject, scores the result against the posting’s keywords, writes a cover letter from the same resume and job, and then its browser widget fills the employer’s form on Workday, Greenhouse and other systems. You read the form and press Submit yourself. It tracks the application afterwards.

There is no paid tier and SealApply sets no usage limit. The built-in AI needs no API key. You can connect a free-tier Gemini, NVIDIA or OpenRouter key instead, and those providers set their own limits. There’s no account: your resumes and applications live in your browser, so export a backup now and then.

What it doesn’t do: it doesn’t find jobs for you, and it never submits on its own. It’s in early access right now.

Jobply: free, with a job board and optional auto-submit

Jobply’s pricing page says “No plans. No credit card. No limits.” It covers tailored resumes, cover letters, AI answers to application questions and a Chrome autofill extension for Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and others. It also has a job board and an optional auto-submit toggle. If you want job listings in the same product, or you want the tool to submit for you, Jobply is the better fit. The full comparison is on the Jobply vs SealApply page.

Free for part of the job

Simplify: the best free autofill if you also want a job board

Simplify’s Copilot extension, job matches and tracker are free, and its job board is the biggest strength here. AI resume tailoring and cover letters are in the paid Simplify+ plan. Many people pair Simplify’s free autofill with a separate free tool for the documents. See the Simplify alternative page.

VeloApply and ApplyCandid: autofill first, AI on a budget

VeloApply gives unlimited free autofill and a small allowance of AI tailored applications before its paid plans. ApplyCandid is a free Chrome extension built around Easy Apply forms on LinkedIn, Indeed and Naukri, with daily AI draft limits; Workday and Greenhouse forms are on its Pro plan.

Applio and Reactive Resume: free resume builders

Applio says every feature is free and unlimited, including tailoring, cover letters and a tracker, but it doesn’t fill application forms. Reactive Resume is open source with no paid tier and no ads; its AI features need your own API key. Both are excellent for building the resume itself.

TheEasyApply, OnlyApply and CVGenerate: capped free plans

TheEasyApply and OnlyApply give five tailored resumes and five cover letters a month free. CVGenerate gives ten generations a day. Fine if you apply to a handful of jobs; tight if you’re applying every day.

Resumly and JobCopilot: auto-apply

These are a different category: they apply to jobs for you. Resumly has a free plan with a fixed number of auto-applies and one-time AI credits. JobCopilot has no free plan. If you want to read every application before it goes, look at autofill tools instead; I wrote about why in autofill vs auto-apply.

How to check a “free” claim yourself

  1. Open the pricing page. If there’s a paid tier, find which features are in it.
  2. Look for caps: per day, per month, or one-time credits.
  3. Check whether the AI needs your own paid API key.
  4. Try one full application on a Workday form before committing.

There’s a longer checklist in how to tell if a job application tool is really free, and SealApply’s own answer is on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free all-in-one job application tool?

SealApply and Jobply are the two tools whose own pages say resume tailoring, cover letters and autofill are all free with no paid plan. SealApply keeps your resume in your browser and never submits for you; Jobply adds a job board and an optional auto-submit.

Is Simplify free?

Simplify's autofill extension, job matches and tracker are free. Its AI resume tailoring and cover letters are part of the paid Simplify+ plan.

Is there a free tool that writes a resume and cover letter for each job?

Yes. SealApply, Jobply and Applio include both free with no monthly cap on their own pages. TheEasyApply and OnlyApply give five of each a month free, and CVGenerate gives ten generations a day.

Are free job application tools really free forever?

Some are and some are freemium. Check the pricing page for a paid tier, look for monthly or daily caps, and check whether the AI needs your own paid API key. A tool with no paid tier at all is the strongest sign it will stay free.

Should I let a free tool submit applications for me?

It is safer to review before you submit. Autofill tools fill the form and leave Submit to you, while auto-apply tools send applications in bulk, which can put wrong answers to sponsorship or salary questions in your name.
