Free AI Job Tools: Score, Tailor, Write and Autofill Without Paying

A job application has four jobs an AI can help with: deciding where to apply, fitting the resume, writing the letter and filling the form. Here is what a free tool can do for each, and where the limits are.

Free AI job tools are easy to find and hard to compare, because “free” can mean a real free tool or a seven-day trial. I built SealApply, so I will say plainly which parts of this list are mine, and I will say when something else suits you better.

I split the job search into four jobs an AI can help with: scoring a posting against your resume, tailoring the resume, writing the cover letter, and filling the application form. Each one has a different failure mode, and that is a better way to pick tools than a ranked list.

Score jobs against your resume

What can a free AI job tool actually do?

Four things are well within reach of a free tool today. It can read a job post and your resume and estimate how well they match. It can reword your resume so the same real experience uses the post’s language. It can draft a letter from the two documents. And a browser extension can fill the repeated fields on the employer’s form.

What none of them should do is invent. If a tool adds a skill you never used, it has made your application worse, not better. For a longer look at which tools charge for which step, I checked a dozen against their pricing pages in best free AI job application tools.

Which jobs are worth applying to? Score them first

This is the step most people skip, and it saves the most time. A job match score rates a posting against your resume out of 100. In SealApply the score is built from four parts: skills count for 45%, experience for 25%, projects for 20% and education for 10%. A score of 85 or more reads as a Strong Match, 70 and up as Good, 50 and up as Fair, and anything below that as Weak.

Treat it as a triage tool. It is an AI estimate of fit, not a prediction of an interview, and no employer ever sees it. A Weak Match on a job you badly want is not a reason to quit; read the gaps it lists and decide. For the full walkthrough, see how to score your resume against a job description for free.

How do I tailor my resume with free AI?

Tailoring means changing the emphasis, not the facts. A good resume tailoring tool pulls out what the post asks for, finds where you already have it, and moves or rewords it. If you do not have a resume to start from, the free AI resume builder can build one from rough notes.

My rule is to read every change. If the AI adds a tool to your skills list that you have not used, delete it. The step-by-step version is in how to tailor your resume to a job description, and the ATS resume checker shows which of the post’s keywords are still missing afterwards.

Is there a free AI cover letter writer?

Yes. The free cover letter generator takes your resume and the job description and returns a plain-text letter, and it needs no sign-in on that page. Inside the app, the Build Cover Letter option on a job gives you an editor and templates. Whether you need a letter at all is a separate question, and I wrote about it in do you still need a cover letter in 2026. For getting a draft that sounds like you, see the free AI cover letter generator guide.

Can I autofill job applications for free?

Yes. The autofill widget fills almost any application form, including Workday, Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, from the profile built out of your resume. It does not submit. You read the form and click Submit yourself, which is where wrong answers to work authorization or salary questions get caught. I explain the difference in autofill vs auto-apply.

What is the catch with free AI?

There are three honest ones.

  • Usage allowance. SealApply has no paid plan, but its default free AI runs through Puter, which requires a Puter sign-in and has its own usage allowance. A big batch of jobs can hit it. You can add your own AI key in settings instead.
  • Text goes to the AI provider. Your resume is kept in your browser, but when the AI runs, the text is sent to the provider you connected. I would not tell you otherwise.
  • It can be wrong. Scores are estimates and letters need editing. Treat the output as a first draft.

How do I use all four together?

Add your resume and up to five job posts on the site. They wait in your browser while you sign in to the free AI in the app’s settings, which takes about a minute. Your profile is filled in, the jobs appear in the Jobs tab and score themselves. Open a job and you will see Customize Your Resume, Build Cover Letter and Analyze How Well You Fit. After you apply, log it in the job application tracker. The whole sequence is laid out in how to use AI to apply for jobs for free.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best free AI job tools?

It depends on the step. For scoring, tailoring, cover letters and autofill together, SealApply is free with no paid plan. For one job at a time, a general chatbot's free tier can draft a resume or letter from text you paste in. Compare tools on what the free plan includes, not the headline.

Are free AI job tools really free?

Some are, and some are free with caps or a paid plan for the AI part. SealApply has no paid plan, but its default free AI runs through Puter, which needs a Puter sign-in and has its own usage allowance. You can add your own AI key instead.

Do I need a SealApply account?

No SealApply account is needed. The default free AI does need a Puter sign-in, which takes about a minute in the app's settings. The one exception is the cover letter generator page, which works without any sign-in.

Is my resume private when I use AI?

Your resume is stored in your browser, but when the AI runs, the text is sent to the AI provider you connected so it can read it. If that matters to you, read that provider's privacy policy first.

Can AI apply to jobs for me?

SealApply never submits an application itself. Autofill fills the form and you review it and click Submit. That is deliberate, because the sponsorship, salary and start-date answers are yours to check.
