Free AI Resume Builder: How to Build a Resume With AI for Free
A step-by-step walkthrough of building a resume with AI at no cost, what to feed it, what to check afterwards, and when a template tool is the better pick.
A free AI resume builder can save you an evening, as long as you know what to give it and what to check afterwards. I built SealApply, so I will use it as the example here, and I will say where something else fits better.
This is the process I would follow if I were starting from an old resume, or from nothing but a few paragraphs of notes about my work.
Build a new resume with AI
How do you build a resume with AI for free?
The short version has four steps.
- Add what you have. Upload an old resume, or paste notes on your jobs, education, projects and skills.
- Paste the job you want. Use the full post, including the requirements. The resume is built for that job.
- Sign in to the free AI. The app opens on its AI settings. It takes about a minute, and you do not need a SealApply account.
- Open the job and customize. Your profile is filled in and the job appears in the Jobs tab with a match score. Open it, press Customize Your Resume, and review each change.
You can do this from the free AI resume builder page, or from the box above.
What should you give an AI resume builder?
Real detail. An AI can rephrase and organise, but it cannot know that you cut a report from a day to an hour unless you tell it. Before you start, jot down for each role:
- Job title, employer, and start and end dates.
- Two or three things you actually did, in plain words.
- Any number you can stand behind: people, hours, money, volume.
- Tools and skills you used day to day.
Rough notes are fine. Sloppy grammar is fine. Vague notes are the problem, because the AI then fills the gaps with generic phrases.
Why does it ask for a job post?
A resume is read against a specific job, so SealApply builds one for each job instead of one general version. That means the first thing it does with your material is fill in a profile, which is the reusable part. Your next resume starts from that profile, not from scratch.
If you want to see how the job post shapes the result, read how to tailor your resume to a job description and how to find resume keywords in a job description.
What should you check before you use the result?
Read your profile first
The profile is filled in from what you pasted. If it missed a job, a degree or a project, fix that before you customize, because everything after builds on it.
Review each change
When you press Customize Your Resume, you see the changes and decide which to keep. Look for three things: a wrong date, a skill you do not have, and a number you did not give it. Delete or correct all three. I go into what AI can and can’t be trusted with in free resume AI.
Read the final page as a stranger would
One page for most early and mid-career roles, consistent dates, and nothing you would hesitate to explain out loud. If an interviewer asked about a line and you would stall, cut it.
Can a free AI resume builder replace a resume template?
Not always. A template tool is the better pick if you mainly want a designed layout, colour choices or a one-click visual makeover. An AI builder is the better pick if your problem is the content: what to say, what to cut, and how to match one job post.
Many people use both. Build the content for the job, then put it in a layout you like. If you want to compare more options, I wrote a roundup of free AI job application tools, and how to tell whether a tool is really free.
What comes after the resume?
Check how well the resume fits the job with the job match score, see how a parser reads it with the ATS resume checker, and refine it for another posting with tailor resume to job description. If the application wants a letter, the cover letter generator works from the same resume. The rest of the tools are on the generators page, and the pricing page explains why there is nothing to pay.
SealApply never submits an application for you. You review the form and press Submit yourself. No tool can promise an interview, so treat the resume as the first step, not the result.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a truly free AI resume builder?
Yes, SealApply is free with no paid plan and no paywall on downloads. The free AI provider has its own usage allowance, and you can add your own AI key in settings if you prefer.
Can AI build a resume if I only have rough notes?
Yes. Notes on your jobs, dates, education, projects and skills are enough to start. The more real detail you include, the less the AI has to guess.
Do I need a SealApply account to build a resume?
No. The free AI runs through Puter, which asks you to sign in once. Your resume and job post wait in your browser until you do.
Will the AI invent experience I do not have?
It is told to work from what you gave it, but any AI can get things wrong. Read the result line by line and delete anything that is not true.
Does the resume text go to an AI provider?
Yes. When the AI runs, your text is sent to the AI provider you connected. Do not paste anything you are not comfortable sending.
